Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa provides for the resort visitor an experience in opulent living, evoking how the rich and famous lived, perhaps in antebellum or post-antebellum times.
On Disney’s mono-rail line which stops at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, entering from the mono-rail station is like entering another world. You move from a modernistic mono-rail and walk through doors into history, with richness evident everywhere at the Grand Floridian.
An ornate, old-style elevator can bring you to the ground floor. The elevator cage can be glimpsed to the right in the image above. Or, you can enjoy a stately progression down the grand staircase, image below.
Even if you are just visiting the resort as we were, if hunger overtakes you, there are plenty of opportunities for what looks like spectacular meals.
At the Grand Floridian, you have the opportunity to enjoy high-tea, as long as you book in advance. The even more formal restaurant shown in the next image requests that gentlemen wear “casual business attire”. No shorts or swimming trunks in this restaurant.
The Grand Floridian orchestra will be playing for guests some evenings, and there are piano bars as well.
We love visiting the various resorts that Disney has to offer on the grounds of Disney World Orlando. If you are staying in the Orlando area for any length of time, visiting the resorts is a good way to spend a few days, at minimal cost.
As you visit a resort explain to the gate guard that you are planning on lunching or dining at the resort, and with a flash of some picture I.D., in you go. Free parking and with access to the mono-rail from some of the resorts, you can parlay parking at one resort into a visit to many, as we did. The image below shows the mono-rail entering the station at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort – Disney World Orlando
An amazing resort. Glad we took the time to visit. Much as we would like to, it’s not likely that we’ll be staying here anytime soon though, ’cause in early 2015 room rates start at over $500 per night!
