Come hungry! The Chocolate Museum & Cafe in Orlando is one place you don’t want to miss if you like chocolate and lots of other goodies and meals.
Given that it was threatening rain, we sought an indoor attraction and picked the Chocolate Museum & Cafe. It didn’t look that imposing when we arrived as it is in a strip mall between an escape room and a spa. Don’t let the appearance fool you. Not only is this a wonderful cafe, the Chocolate Museum part of this establishment is spacious and has multiple rooms. That just isn’t visible from the street side.
We intended to go just for the chocolate tour. Instead we selected their “package” that included the tour and an incredible chocolate dessert and a rich, creamy and smooth hot chocolate for each of us.
We were ‘walk-ins’ rather than having booked on line, and arrived about 35 minutes before the next on-the-hour tour. Fortunately, they had room for just two more… us!
Rather than wait in the car we opted to enjoy our included dessert and hot chocolate before the tour. They were wonderful, but maybe we shouldn’t have had these decadent treats first! Part of the tour is tasting chocolate from around the world.
Since our chocolate cravings were sated by the before-tour treat, we couldn’t fully enjoy the chocolate tasting during the tour! So, we took the samples along with us when we left and enjoyed them later.
Here’s what we mean about rich chocolate treats as part of their package. Wonderful desserts like this along with other meal items can be purchased without the tour if one just wants to stop in and have a delicious lunch and/or snack.
It’s a lovely cafe with a wide ranging menu. Patrons can enjoy a nice lunch and dessert or just a fresh brewed coffee if desired.
Chcolate Museum & Cafe in Orlando
Frankly, our expectations for the “museum” part of this visit were not high. We were very pleasantly surprised to enjoy an informative hour long tour, with about 15 other folks, through their quite extensive museum. The tour was certainly worth it.
I don’t know how many tour guides there are providing museum tours at the Chocolate Museum & Cafe. Our tour guide was Dave. Dave is quite the tour guide. He’s a character with the gentle way of the seasoned presenter and able to deal with pretty much everything unexpected that may happen in a tour with wee children and up to very senior patrons in the mixed group. His ‘one liners’ were quite funny and enjoyable.
The Chocolate Museum & Cafe Tour is quite extensive.
We learned a lot about the origins of chocolate, of the different kinds, and where and how it traveled throughout the world. All the information is accompanied by exhibits displaying items that supported the tour guide’s words.
Throughout the tour, Dave kept a running commentary, providing in-depth information about chocolate, and ably fielding the many questions from fellow tour members.
As always, there are many photos taken during our tour, and only so much room on a web page. To provide more opportunity to see what’s inside the museum tour, there will be slide show of more photos coming up. First… I just know you want to meet Dave!
